brief history OF BUGEMCO

The Bukidnon Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BUGEMCO) traces its humble beginnings to 1989, when twenty-five (25) employees from various provincial government offices united with a common vision of promoting financial stability and mutual assistance among government employees. This initiative led to the establishment of the Bukidnon Government Employees Credit Cooperative (BUGECCI), a closed-type cooperative that was officially registered with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) on April 8, 1991.

During its first year of operation (1991–1992), the cooperative had only 205 members, total assets amounting to ₱635,000.00, and a paid-up share capital of ₱257,000.00. As membership steadily increased, the cooperative recognized the need to strengthen its organizational capacity. In 1994, its Articles of Cooperation and By-Laws were amended, increasing the authorized share capital from ₱200,000.00 to ₱20,000,000.00. Along with these amendments, the cooperative officially changed its name from BUGECCI to Bukidnon Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BUGEMCO), with the amendments registered by the CDA on March 23, 1994.

A significant milestone came in 2013, when the Board of Directors approved the expansion of BUGEMCO’s membership and services to include non-government employees, enabling the cooperative to extend its benefits and opportunities to a broader segment of the community.

Today, BUGEMCO has grown into one of the leading cooperatives in Bukidnon, serving more than 35,000 members. As of December 31, 2025, the cooperative’s total assets reached ₱3,353,974,167, up from ₱2,861,479,630 in 2024—an increase of ₱492,494,537, or 17.21%. This remarkable growth reflects the trust and confidence of its members, prudent financial management, and the unwavering commitment of its officers and employees to deliver quality, member-centered services.

To better serve its growing membership, BUGEMCO has expanded its network and diversified its services. The cooperative currently operates seven (7) branches across Bukidnon, along with one (1) Learning Center, one (1) Grocery Store, one (1) Coop Assurance Center, and one (1) Commercial Center. Through continuous innovation, sound governance, and sustainable development initiatives, BUGEMCO remains committed to its mission of improving the quality of life of its members and contributing to the socio-economic development of the communities it serves.

From its modest beginnings with only twenty-five visionary founders, BUGEMCO has evolved into a strong, resilient, and progressive cooperative—living out its commitment to “Making Lives Better.”
